Support and financial assistance for carers
There is a wide range of support available to help you with your caring role, including respite care. The Australian Government’s Carer Gateway provides practical information and resources for carers. Call 1800 422 737.
Caring for someone with cancer can also cause financial difficulties. Services Australia (Centrelink) supports carers with a range of payments, including the Carer Payment and Carer Allowance. For more information about these payments, call 132 717.
If you need advice on legal or financial issues, Cancer Council may be able to refer you to qualified professionals. These services are free for people who can’t afford to pay. Financial assistance may also be available. To find out more, call Cancer Connect 13 11 20 or see Financial Support and Legal & Workplace Support.
For more information on caring and finances, see Financial concerns as a carer, Financial help for carers and Cancer and your finances.
Every caring situation is different. To find out more about being a carer, see Caring for someone with cancer and Caring for someone with advanced cancer.
