Topics covered
- How to incorporate the NCSP self-collection changes into primary practice, including pathology requirements.
- Eligibility criteria for cervical screening self-collection, including when self-collection is not appropriate, and how to interpret results and use follow-up pathways.
- Promote self-collection in primary practice to increase participation rates in the NCSP, including educating patients on how to collect a sample and the importance of screening.

- From 1 July 2022, all National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP) participants aged 25-74 years old can screen using either a self-collected sample or a clinician collected sample.
- Self-collection helps overcome barriers to cervical cancer screening and provides a safe and culturally appropriate alternative for under-screened groups.
- Self-collection is equally as sensitive for the detection of CIN2+/AIS and HPV as a practitioner-collected CST.
