As part of our work to address the disproportionate impact tobacco smoking has on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, we partnered with Waminda South Coast Women’s health and Welfare Aboriginal Corporation on the Tackling Tobacco program.
Tackling Tobacco has been run with Waminda over several years and the service provides an innovative and holistic program designed by and for Aboriginal women to tackle tobacco. It draws upon healthy lifestyle changes, strong community connection and social and emotional wellbeing support which all wraps together in the Dead or Deadly health and wellbeing space to support women to quit and stay quit.
Representatives from Waminda South Coast Women’s health and Welfare Aboriginal Corporation presented on their programs at the Oceania Tobacco Control Conference 2019.
The conference provided a great opportunity for us to catch up, focus on tobacco cessation and the work that we can continue to do together in this space.
