For Ally, the ocean is more than just a place to swim – it’s a way of life. So when she came across the Daffodil Day Dip, joining felt like a natural fit.
“I love being in the ocean, it’s a huge part of my life,” she says. “It made sense to raise money while doing what I love.”
Ally’s reason for doing the Dip is deeply personal. Her father died from metastatic melanoma when he was just 34 years old. Later, her stepfather died of pancreatic cancer, as well as her uncle, who died from kidney cancer.
“Dad was only 34 when he died,” she says. “My amazing stepdad also passed away from pancreatic cancer, and my wonderful uncle from kidney cancer.”
The losses have left a lasting impact and strengthened her determination to raise funds for cancer research.
Inspired to take action
Having witnessed the devastating impact cancer can have on families, Ally knows why fundraising is so important.
“It’s such a cruel disease,” she says. “To see kindhearted, loving people lose their lives in such a devastating way is heartbreaking.”
The funds raised through the Daffodil Day Dip helps fund vital cancer research, giving hope to the 1 in 2 Aussies who will be diagnosed with cancer by 85.
“The more money that can be raised, the fewer people will have to go through what so many families have experienced.”
While cancer has taken so much from her family, participating in the Daffodil Day Dip gives her the chance to honour their memory in a positive and meaningful way.
If you want to raise funds in memory of a loved one with cancer, join or donate to the Daffodil Day Dip this August. Together, we can fund vital cancer research and bring us closer to a future free from cancer.
