Stage of cancer refers to the extent of your cancer, including the size and if/how much it has spread. It is important information for your treatment planning and to understand how serious your cancer is.
The stage of a cancer can be determined by a variety of tests, including imaging (X-Ray, PET etc.).
There are different staging systems for different cancers, including the TNM system. In general. the higher the stage of your cancer the more advanced the cancer is. Stage 0 usually describes the presence of abnormal cells (i.e. a potential precursor of cancer but has not yet developed into cancer) while stage IV refers to cancer that has spread to distant parts of the body.
