Lymphocyte

A type of white blood cell involved in the immune system which helps protect you from infections and other diseases, such as cancer. Lymphocytes are made in the bone marrow and then mature and exit into your bloodstream and lymphatic system.
The two main types of lymphocytes:
- B lymphocytes (also known as B-cells) make antibodies and are involved in the adaptive immune system.
- T lymphocytes (also known as T-cells) help kill cancer or infected cells and coordinate other immune responses involved in the adaptive immune system.
Another type of lymphocyte are natural killer (NK) cells, which are involved in the innate immune system, and can rapidly respond to threats.
