Blood brain barrier

A network of blood vessels and tissue made up of closely packed cells that act as a barrier to keep harmful substances from reaching the brain.
The blood brain barrier lets some substances, such as water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and general anaesthetics, pass into the brain. It also restricts the entry of many anticancer drugs, which is a major obstacle in treating brain cancers.
