About the Competition
SunSmart Student Studio is a Cancer Council NSW competition inviting Primary and Secondary school students across NSW to get creative with sun safety. Students create an original poster, story, comic or character design that communicates a SunSmart message to their peers – no professional production required, just a strong idea.
Key Information
Open to: Primary & Secondary School students across NSW
- Entries open: 21 September 2026
- Entries close: 01 November 2026
- Formats: Poster | Story | Comic | Character Design
- Students can create entries at home, during a class or school. All completed entries must be submitted by a parent or guardian on behalf of the participating student/s.
- Judging: assessed separately across Primary and Secondary School streams
- Prizes: First, second and third place prizes will be awarded across both Primary and Secondary School streams, along with Highly Commended recognition. Full prize details will be announced soon!
A Note on Timing
SunSmart Student Studio has been designed to fit around the school calendar. Students can start brainstorming before the end of term, continue their entry over the school holidays, or pick it back up when they return next term – whatever works best for your classroom.

Everything you need to run and promote the competition at your school – including classroom guidance, entry templates and ready-to-use resources for parents, students and your school’s social channels, is included in the Teacher Toolkit.
Each entry template includes a QR code that students can take home with their completed entry. Their parent or guardian can scan the QR code to access the online entry form and submit the entry on their behalf.

SunSmart Student Studio is designed to fit around your classroom – as a one-off lesson, a term project, or a self-directed activity students can pick up at home.
Promoting It in Your School
The Teacher Toolkit includes ready-to-use resources you can share with your school community, including a parent EDM/newsletter, a student email, a printable poster and social tiles.
