FAQs
It’s recommended you review your Will every five years, or whenever there’s a significant event or change in your life. Retirement is the perfect time to update your Will – because that’s when you’ll be thinking deeply about your life and income.
No matter what retirement might look like for you, having a plan will make the transition much easier. And remember, there’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ retirement plan. It should be as individual as you are. So, take your time, do your research and talk to your partner, family, friends and a trusted financial advisor. We hope this guide will help answer any questions you might have.
A ‘Gift in Will’ or bequest is a donation left to a charity of your choice, as stated in your Will.
Gifts in Wills and bequests help to support the daily activities of the charities you love and enable them to continue to support the community. For Cancer Council NSW, this means funding life-saving cancer research projects and cancer support services. In this way, it can be the perfect way to make an impact with your Will.
A Gift in Will can be a specific monetary amount, property, shares, or percentage of these assets. Some examples of Gifts in Wills include:
- A monetary gift of a set amount (e.g. $10,000)
- A percentage of your share portfolio
- A piece of land or title
- A percentage of the residue of your estate
Leaving a gift in your Will is simple. All your solicitor needs is our ABN 51 116 463 846 and registered name Cancer Council NSW.
If you are creating your Will for the first time, we recommend that you consult with a solicitor who is experienced in Wills and estates. However, you may choose to draft your own Will using an online Will provider such as Safewill.
