“About 30 years ago – two years apart – my 23-year-old brother and my then 55-year-old father died of cancer.
Since then, cancer research has vastly improved the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this ubiquitous disease.
This is due, in no small part, to the work of Cancer Council; generously funded by thousands of people across NSW.
So when I heard, in November 2017, that Cancer Council needed volunteers to write Christmas cards to thank these wonderful people, I immediately joined the team.
It was such a joy to encounter volunteers and employees who were so passionate and committed to the vision and values of Cancer Council. I decided to continue throughout the years since to also write birthday cards and help with the occasional admin task.
Although my part is small, I derive a great deal of satisfaction from my role. A bonus is discovering the diversity of donors, staff and volunteers – and the myriad ways that Cancer Council improves the lives of people affected by cancer.”
