Cancer Council NSW: $14.7 million
committed to research in 2009
This year, Cancer Council is again funding more cancer research than any other charitable organisation in the state - we are committing $14.7 million to research. This money funds studies undertaken by the Cancer Council Research Division as well as vital cancer research in hospitals, universities and research institutes across New South Wales.
The shared vision
All of these research projects have the potential to make medical breakthroughs that could save many lives, and are conducted by passionate researchers who share the vision that cancer can be defeated. Their work is possible thanks to the invaluable support of our generous donors whose contribution has helped make real and significant progress in the fight against cancer.
Research for the whole cancer journey
Our researchers are distinguished by their holistic approach to cancer research. Each of our projects is connected to the real needs of real people, at all stages of the cancer journey: prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and quality of life. Our studies also address all types of cancers to ensure that those with less common cancers are not neglected.
Donors lead the way
We are immensely grateful to everyone who is helping to make this important research work happen. Every day, Cancer Council’s team of dedicated researchers are striving to discover new knowledge that is the key to life-saving medical advances. With the ongoing support from our community, I’m confident that we will continue to push the boundaries of medical science and move closer to our ultimate goal of defeating cancer.
