Have your say - protect children from tobacco

The Cancer Council welcomes the NSW Government discussion paper which is designed to protect children from the dangers of smoking. Suggestions include putting cigarettes out of sight in shops and supermarkets and deregistration for retailers caught selling to minors. We are calling for you to have your say on which policies you support.

Living Well After Cancer Programs

Cancer and its treatment can bring a host of practical challenges, from changes in appearance and body function to managing the emotional and social impacts. The Cancer Council NSW is offering free community education programs for cancer survivors, their carers, families, friends and colleagues.

Support for people affected by pancreatic cancer

The Cancer Council is now offering monthly group meetings, in two metropolitan Sydney locations, for people affected by pancreatic cancer, their families and carers. Telephone support groups are available for those who are unable to attend these face-to-face groups.

Investigating thyroid cancer in New South Wales

The Cancer Council has been aware of the rising rates of thyroid cancer in NSW and has been studying how people arrive at a diagnosis: what symptoms were first noticed, what tests were done, which specialists were seen and so on. The findings will help determine the reasons for the alarming rise.

NSW Government to enforce stricter solarium regulations

Under new regulations, enforceable from 1 January 2009, NSW solariums will be banned from admitting very fair skinned people and under-18s; the frequency of visits will also be limited. Anti-solarium campaigner, Clare Oliver, who died last year of melanoma, recorded an emotional TV ad to remind teens of the dangers of tanning.
