What is the Healthy Sports Initiative?
The Healthy Sports Initiative is a free, three to four year membership program run by Cancer Council NSW. It works with junior cricket clubs and aims to create a healthy, cancer-smart environment for club members and their families by addressing five Health Promotion Standards including:
- Sun protection
- Smoke-free environments
- Healthy Eating
- Alcohol Management
- Sponsorship and Fundraising
The program takes a staged approach, implementing a new standard each year. Cancer Council NSW provides support such as signage and resources, digital assets, and policies to support clubs to address each standard. At the moment the program is being tested on 30 cricket clubs across NSW.
