Managing cancer pain – communications skills for health professionals

Pain is an important but largely controllable factor in a whole array of suffering.

Feedback from patients shows that the most substantial barrier to pain management is ineffective communication.

This training package was produced in consultation with experienced clinicians and consumers to help health professionals improve their communication skills in pain management.

It provides health professionals with a comprehensive teaching guide of how to improve communication with their patients.

The package contains:

  • An instructional video (produced in collaboration with the University of Sydney Pain Management and Research Centre). The video provides both a stimulus for discussion and an illustration of effective communication tools.
  • A training manual which utilises an array of teaching methods to develop effective communication skills.

The package costs $55 (includes GST and postage)
