British America Tobacco accused of lying about plain packaging claims
British America Tobacco last week claimed that plain packaging in Australia has made no impact apart from increasing illegal cigarette smuggling. Official Customs figures indicate plain packaging has had almost no effect on tobacco smuggling, with only one haul of ‘plain packaged’ illegal cigarettes found. Read more
A Fairfax media analysis found that the illicit plain packaged’ cigarettes represented less that 4 per cent of all cigarettes captured since the introduction of plain packaging.
Research has found that a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates can help shed weight and normalise blood-glucose levels, lowing the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. However two other studies suggest that this type of diet is short-sighted as with this type of diet you will likely not live as long. Read more

Study looking into whether there is a meat and cancer link
A new study from the UK is looking at whether there is a link between eating meat and cancer. The study is of 70,000 vegetarians to find out more information. A previous study was conducted which found a diet rich in animal protein led to a fourfold increase in the risk of death from cancer or diabetes however they only surveyed 6381 people. Read more
The study is being conducted by the University of Oxford’s cancer epidemiology unit.
