Cancer Council NSW a finalist in the PwC Transparency Awards
Cancer Council NSW was pleased to be recognised as one of 10 finalists in the revenue greater than $30m category, in the 2012 PwC Transparency Awards for the quality and transparency of our reporting.
When we first submitted an entry to the PwC awards five years ago, we recognised that the awards represented best practice across the not-for-profit sector and provided a benchmark for complete and quality reporting. As an organisation committed to transparency and quality in all our systems, operations and reporting, we felt the PwC awards reflected our ethos and our win this year confirms just that.
Cancer is one of the biggest social issues of our time. In NSW alone, over 36,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year and the impacts on families, carers and communities are considerable. That is why Cancer Council NSW is committed to reducing these numbers and increasing survival rates for all cancers.
We are an independent charity which receives little government funding and relies on the generosity of the community to continue our lifesaving work in cancer prevention and support. We are also the largest funder of cancer research in the not-for-profit sector in NSW.
To survive and prosper in a crowded fundraising environment, transparency and accountability is of paramount importance. We need to be able to justify that every dollar raised through our fundraising activities is spent in the most effective way possible towards our vision of defeating cancer.
And so, we used our Annual Report to let our supporters know how the money and time they have so generously given to the cause have been used, how they have contributed to some significant achievements, and improved the quality of so many lives.
Progress in the fight against cancer will take time but successes like winning the PwC awards motivates all of us at Cancer Council NSW - staff, volunteers, supporters and stakeholders - to continue driving our mission forward.
Cancer Council NSW won the revenue greater than $30m category for our 2010/11 Annual Report.
We are committed to giving back to the community by providing vital cancer support and prevention programs and funding ground-breaking research to help make a difference to the millions of Australians touched by cancer.
